In 1964 a new art movement burst on the scene. In an article describing this new art TIME MAGAZINE calles it: "OPTICAL ART" which got shortened to Op Art.

It was called this because it was art based on "Illusion". Artists were trying to create the illusion of movement and depth on a flat still picture place.

Op art's main purpose is to fool the eye. Op art compositions create a "visual tension" in the viewer's mind that works to give the art a sense of movement.

Realistically you know that any Op Art pieces is flat, static (still not moving), and 2 dimensional but when you look at these works your eyes tell your brain that things are moving or flickering. WOW!

Op Art uses the positive space (the black or coloured parts) and the negative space (the white of the paper) equally in its compositions.

In 1965 after a major Art Show called: "The Responsive Eye" the public went crazy for the style and soon you were seeing it everywhere: in advertising, on LP covers and in fasion.

When you look at this art you might think: I could wipe that off in Photoshop on my computer in no time. But just remember in the 1960's there weren't any computers for the general public to use and Photoshop wasn't heard of. These artists were doing this work by hand and inventing it from scratch. As they said in the 60's: "cool man that's far out"

Art - is a product of human creativity. something creative. Something that you can live without it, but makes life more enjoyable and cultural if you could find. Something that you can see it from your point -of-view depending on your perspective.

Art does not mean "visual art" always. (ex: martial arts) what they have in common is the dact that people enjoy it and it can have different meaning to each individuals.

A perfect art look like "having infinite life and value from generation to generation". Art created by nature, some from ancient time, things that keep continuing like Sagrada Familia. But it doesn't have to be a well-known. I think, if it could attract someone's attention and pose him/her for seconds to try figure "what expression can be found in it" out, it is an art. If the person were feeling something that is not everyday rutine, it would be a perfect for one at the moment.
